Populations with Tools from ACG
Cincinnati’s Talbert House is one of the region’s largest social service agencies,
serving a client population of more than 20,500 each year, with mental health,
community corrections, substance abuse and welfare-to-work services.
Tony Nuismer is HR Manager for the 900-employee organization.
ACG installed Abra HR, Abra Recruiting, ESS (Employee self-service) ,
and Abra Train, at Talbert House. Abra Org chart will be installed in
November, 2006.
Abra HR
Tony Nuismer first used Abra HR software in the 1990s while HR manager
for a small outpatient medical company. “Abra HR was really designed for
small to medium-sized companies, such as my former employer,” says
Nuismer. “But it works well for us, simplifying benefits administration and
ensuring compliance. Our situation is very complex, due to the nature of
our clientele, and the many reporting requirements involved.”
Among the software’s important benefits are its ability to easily define
eligibility criteria and establish benefit plans using wizards. Personnel work
history, performance reviews, education and notes, can be accessed within
the framework of a multi-level password system. Audit trails identify any
changes by the individual making the change, date, and time. The software
integrates with Microsoft Office, so data can be viewed and analyzed in
Word and Excel.
Reports on benefit elections and plan changes can be generated easily
with Abra HR. Tools within Abra HR allow salary, turnover and worker
performance to be analyzed quickly. Compliance management, including
EEO, Citizenship, Vets-100, and FMLA, as well as COBRA and HIPAA, is
streamlined as well. More than 100 standard reports are available, and
Crystal Reports (included) provides an additional 120 reports that can
be customized to meet specific needs.
Abra Recruiting
“Abra Recruitingenables potential employees to search by keywords for
the type of education we’re looking for, and complete job applications online,”
says Nuismer. “Hiring managers can review applications electronically from
each of our 30 different locations, and communicate electronically.”
The software is designed to shorten the candidate search and selection
process Fully integrated with Abra Suite, Abra Recruiting maintains an
organized database of qualified applicants, tracks hiring costs and facilitates
easy email communications with candidates.
Abra ESS Employee Self Service
“Abra ESS lets our supervisors and employees access information online
regarding training updates, address changes, etc, “ says Nuismer. It has
multiple security levels, so a supervisor can see only his employees,
and employees only their own files,” he explains. “But employees can
make their own changes.
“We’ve had Abra ESS one year,” says Nuismer. “It’s Intuitive, so it’s easy
to learn. And instructions for use are short. Rarely is manual manager
intervention needed. Passwords are stored, and are easily changeable –
a good security feature.”
Abra Train
Abra Train automates scheduling, record-keeping, and correspondence,
to ensure employees receive training for certification or other purposes.
Because Abra Train integrates with Abra HR, new employees have training requirements defined automatically, based on current skill sets, and profiles
are updated whenever new courses or education units are completed.
“Abra Train also generates reminders,” says Nuismer, and runs reports
to see who’s approaching an annual benchmark.”
Abra Train manages class rosters for instructors and students, and checks
class capacities and course prerequisites automatically. Talbert House can
generate more than 40 standard reports, including employee training, class administration, training cost analysis, and course catalogs. It is an excellent
compliance tool for managing OSHA, DOT, ISO 9000, and QS 9000
requirements.
“We are very satisfied with the work ACG has done to implement and
support these tools,” says Nuismer. “Our next project, slated for
November, 2006, will be to add Abra Org Chart, a separate add-on.
“With employee turnover at 20% per year,” says Nuismer, “this will be
immediately to our advantage. Abra HR data will be updated by Org Chart,”
