Plastic Trim, LLC, Beavercreek, OH is a
leading manufacturer of exterior
plastic trim products for the automobile industry. The company supplies
parts for decorative and design purposes, including windshield molding,
body side moldings and bumper fascia moldings. It has three
locations,
340 employees and $70 million in annual sales.
Dan Schwanitz,
Manufacturing Manager, has responsibility for HR.
Working with ACG, he implemented Abra Suite, Unitime and Sage FAS
fixed asset management software as a way to reduce costs, while
gaining maximum flexibility, and extensive reporting capabilities.
Abra Suite
“I installed Abra Suite for a previous
employer in 1999,” says Schwanitz,
“when we parted ways with payroll services. I had found the
services –
3 of them actually - very inflexible. It was cumbersome to
make corrections,
and their report writers were inadequate to our needs. What was
generated
was a stack of reports with little useful information. They were
also expensive.
“With Abra Suite HR / Payroll and
attendance, we set up own deduction
codes, earnings codes and tax rules in the way it works for us.
Outside
payroll services don’t allow you to customize very much. With
reporting,
for example, you can’t modify menus or rename fields. Abra Suite,
on the
other hand, accommodates extensive customizing.
“I need numerous specialized (Crystal)
reports, for 401 plans for pension
audits, and to provide auditors with the data they need. The
payroll services
haven’t kept pace with the needs of the market; Abra Suite, on the
other hand,
lets us write what we need, when we need it. And we can do the
work here
in a half hour, rather than waiting a week. You can easily find the
data you
need in Abra Suite databases, and it’s easy to maneuver and link the
information as well.”
Unitime
“Unitime is the time and attendance
‘partner’ for Abra Suite– so the interface
is seamless. You reconcile hours and make adjustments on the Unitime
side
and when finalized, pass those hours to the Abra Suite payroll
system.
We can run daily punch detail reports, and exception reports, and make
corrections daily if needed. And when it’s time to run payroll,
we just run it,
unless we need to modify the information for the previous weeks, or
someone
requests a second paycheck for vacation during the next pay period,
or something else that requires adjustment.”
Sage FAS Fixed Asset Management
Software
“We use Sage FAS Asset Accounting,
another product designed to work
with Abra Suite, as our fixed asset management software. It
calculates
depreciation for buildings, land, high-value tooling, machinery,
furniture and
fixtures, and generates tax reports for the auditors. I had good
success
with FAS at a previous employer and had used another system – BNA –
prior to that time.
If you’re planning to sell a company or
equipment, you need to know –
and document – its value and the gain or loss realized. FAS asset
accounting does that, along with projections for future year
depreciations,
so it’s ideal for budgeting. Like Abra Suite, it’s just a strong,
well-built
accounting tool.”
