Abra Payroll and ACG Support Allow
Manager at Prominent Foodservice Firm
to Handle HR and Accounting Without Staff Ellenbee Leggett is a distributor of premium foodservice products serving
the hospitality industry, healthcare facilities, school, universities, caterers,
and commissaries in four Midwestern states. Betti Davenport is HR and Accounting Manager at Ellenbee Leggett, and
implemented Abra Payrollin 1998. It was a task she had never envisioned:
“When I joined the company, I had never done payrollbefore– it was totally
foreign to me. But the training I had from ACG, and their support, which
ensured I was completely comfortable at the time we ‘went live’ made all
the difference. Honestly, they made it as easy as learning Excel! “The first time I did year-end was a bit of a test,” she continues, “but, again
with good support from ACG, that went very well, with no issues at all.” Davenport is responsible for all HR and accounting for the 115-employee
company, “including medical, dental, vision, 401, flexible spending programs,
AFLAC and much more.” She also works without a staff. “For that reason”
she emphasizes, “it’s critical that I have a way to get questions related to
payroll and accounting answered quickly and completely. And I do.” Davenport has 22 years experience with union management. “I enjoyed
the interaction, and the challenge of conflict resolution. But this company is
non-union. This means that people can work in different departments and
have greater flexibility. That would create payroll issues if we had a less
capable software– or less tech support. But my sense is I can handle
virtually any variable.” Abra Payroll Interfaces with Ellenbee Leggett’s time and attendance system.
“BAS,” explains Davenport, “is my liaison between the timeclock system
and the Abra system for hourly employees. “I should mention,” she adds, “that in addition to handling accounting and
HR for Ellenbee, I do those functions for second firm as well.” The company
focuses on meat production and is co-located with Ellenbee. Challenges ahead? “Workers comp is an ongoing challenge,” she says,
“with new regulations, community initiatives, 3rd party managers and MCOs,
follow-ups, transitional work programs and 10-step business plans for
credits heading the list of issues. Says Davenport, “If only it could be as simple and manageable as payroll!”
